Khabib's manager projects a fight with St. Pierre in 2019

Even with the announcement of GSP's retirement, businessman Ali Abdelaziz revealed that the superfight could be announced soon

Georges St Pierre announced his retirement at the beginning of 2019, however the former welterweight (up to 77,1 kg) and middleweight (up to 84 kg) champion may reconsider his retirement for a superfight against Khabib Nurmagomedov, lightweight champion (up to 70,3 kg.). At least that's what the Russian's manager, Ali Abdelaziz, says.

In an interview with ESPN in the USA, Abdelaziz revealed the next steps in Nurmagomedov's career. The official unification of the lightweight title between Khabib and Dustin poirier, interim champion, should happen in the next few days. However, afterwards, he surprised by bringing up the superfight against GSP again.

“We are close (to announcing the fight against Poirier). Good news will come soon. And if everything goes according to plan, I think Khabib will fight Georges St-Pierre at the end of the year”, revealed Ali.

St. Pierre hasn't fought since UFC 217 in 2017, when he won Michael Bisping and won the middleweight title. With the triumph, the Canadian got his second belt in different categories (welterweight and middleweight).

The fighter went through some health problems and, in February of this year, he hung up his gloves. According to him, 'in the best physical and mental shape of his career'.

On the other hand, although it is not yet official, it seems that the unification of the lightweight belt, between Khabib and Poirier, should happen in September. The duel will be the main attraction of the UFC 242, on the organization's return to Abu Dhabi
