Opponent of Gilbert Durinho No. UFC 287, Jorge masvidal treated the challenge of Khamzat Shimaev to the middleweight champion (up to 83,9kg.), Alex Poatán. In an interview with 'The MMA Hour', the North American criticized the Swede's attitude, who treated a possible confrontation with the Brazilian as 'easy'.
“I heard about a challenge Khamzat Shimaev to Alex. Who are you? He (Poatan) is the world champion. You’ve never beaten a top 15 (at middleweight),” Masvidal said.

The attack did not stop there. Jorge recalled the Swede's glaring failure to cut weight for his commitment in the controversial UFC 279.
“You can’t fail the weight cut by 3,8kg. and even demand a title fight. Get out of here. Go fight and then talk. I'm about to run over the guy you beat in a split decision (Gilbert Durinho)”, he concluded.
No UFC 287, Masvidal will step into the octagon under pressure for a positive result. With three consecutive defeats in his recent record, the North American had his last triumph in 2019, when he beat Nate diaz.
Criticized by Jorge, Khamzat Shimaev has not performed since the victory over Kevin holland, at the end of 2022. After the challenge, the Swede even proposed a clash against Alex Poatán. Ultimate, however, did not make the clash official.
Pivot in the controversy, the middleweight champion has a date and opponent for his first title defense. On April 8, the Tupiniquim climbs into the octagon for an immediate rematch with Israel adesanya, former leader of the group, dethroned last season.
