UFC EVENTS IN RIO DE JANEIRO

This Saturday (21), Ultimate returns to Rio de Janeiro for UFC 283, with two title fights.

Remember the ten previous editions of the event that had the Marvelous City as the stage.

In the first edition of the UFC in Rio de Janeiro, Anderson Silva put on a show and knocked out Yushin Okami in the main fight. The event also featured memorable victories for Mauricio Shogun over Forrest Griffin and Rodrigo Minotauro over Brendan Schaub.

The second edition had as its main attraction the apotheotic victory of José Aldo over Chad Mendes. The event also featured Vitor Belfort's submission over Anthony Johnson and Edson Barboza's historic knockout over Terry Etim.

Also in 2012, Anderson Silva moved up a division and took no notice of Stephan Bonnar. On the same night, Rodrigo Minotauro submitted Dave Herman and Glover Teixeira 'slaughtered' Fabio Maldonado.

In the fourth edition on Rio soil, the 'King of Rio' José Aldo defended the featherweight belt once again by knocking out Zumbi Coreano in the main fight. The event also marked Amanda Nunes' debut in the organization, with a victory over Sheila Gaff.

Showing that the nickname 'King of Rio' was not given for nothing, Aldo returned to the Marvelous City to defend the title once again in a battle against Chad Mendes.

The UFC's only non-numbered event in Rio featured Demian Maia overcoming Ryan LaFlare in the main fight and also featured victories for Amanda Nunes over Shayna Baszler and Gilbert Durinho over Alex Cowboy.

UFC 190 marked the first defeat of Brazilians in main fights in Rio, when the then unbeatable Ronda Rousey gave Bethe Correia no chance. In the main fight, Mauricio Shogun overcame Rogério Minotoruo in the second chapter of the trilogy.

In the same city where he became "King", José Aldo ended up being knocked out and dethroned by Max Holloway in the main fight of UFC 212. On the other hand, the event saw victories for Claudinha Gadelha, Vitor Belfort and Paulo Borrachinha.

After two defeats in main fights, Amanda Nunes was tasked with restoring order and knocking out Raquel Pennington in the fifth round to keep the bantamweight belt. The event was also marked by Lyoto Machida's brutal knockout of Vitor Belfort.

In the last edition of the UFC in Rio, it was Jéssica Bate-Estaca's turn to live up to her nickname and knock out Rose Namajunas with a piledriver to win the strawweight title. At the same event, Anderson Silva and José Aldo were defeated and BJ Penn had his last fight as a professional.
