Frankie Edgar believes he deserves to fight for the featherweight belt (up to 65,7kg) against the current champion Max Holloway. Edgar commented on the matter in an interview with 'ESPN'. Holloway returns to the division after being defeated by Dustin poirier in the fight for the lightweight title (up to 70,3 kg.), in UFC 236.

“I think everyone knows this should go to me,” Edgar said. "Even the guys who want the shot say, 'Well, I know Frankie should get it.' Alexander Volkanovsky is struggling with José Aldo in a few weeks and that could have an impact, but I think everyone knows it's me. I worked my whole career for it to be me,” commented Frankie.

Edgar believes that the years of work he has done for the UFC can benefit him when they choose Max's next challenger. The Brazilian José Aldo, first in the ranking, will hardly get a chance, given that the Manauara man was defeated on two consecutive occasions by the Hawaiian in title disputes.

“I know the UFC likes to reward people who are willing to just let it fly. I've done this my entire career. I’m ready to be rewarded”, concluded the fighter.

Frankie could have his way in his quest to win the belt frustrated, if Alexander Volkanovsky beat Aldo in UFC 237, on May 11th. Volkanovski is fourth in the rankings, one position behind Edgar. The Australian, however, has in his favor the fact that he has not yet had a fight for the category belt. The three fighters in front of him are former title challengers.

If the North American is really given the opportunity, he may have to wait until the end of the year for the fight to take place, since Max Holloway received an indefinite medical suspension after his duel against Poirier.

Edgar is currently 37 years old and is a former UFC lightweight champion. He made his featherweight debut in 2013, fighting for the division's belt against José Aldo. 'The Answer' even competed for the interim belt in the category, again against Aldo and, as in the first fight, he was defeated.

Frankie has a record of 30 fights, 23 wins, six losses and one draw. His last performance took place almost a year ago, when he beat his compatriot Cub swanson by unanimous decision of the judges.
