Former UFC featherweight champion, José Aldo, announced that he may rethink his decision to retire in 2019. At the press conference UFC 237, held this Thursday (28), Aldo revealed that he intends to fulfill his last two fights under his contract, but is considering renegotiating the agreement if he is in a position to regain the title.

“The last fight, when we went through (Renato) Moicano, they already came to talk about it (the contract renewal). But I'm listening to other proposals too. I think I've already done a lot within MMA, now it's time for the new generation”, he said José Aldo. When mentioned the possibility of regaining his old belt, Aldo didn't shy away. “This title is coming into my arms, so if it comes, I accept it,” he added.

If he wins his next match, scheduled for May 11th, in Rio de Janeiro, the man from Manaus will remain the number one challenger for the featherweight title. However, the 'People's Champion' has already said publicly that he finds it difficult to fight again against the current belt holder, Max Holloway, as he was defeated on two consecutive occasions; both in 2017.

Holloway, in turn, will venture into the lightweight category and will face Dustin poirier in the dispute for the division's interim belt. If Max wins, he will have to give up one of his belts, which could be the featherweight belt. This way, Aldo would have a free path to try to regain his reign in his category.

Aldo's penultimate UFC fight, in which he will face Australian Alexander Vokanovski, in UFC 237, came under threat after the manauara was hospitalized due to a bacterial infection contracted by the fighter after cutting himself in training. However, the fighter has already been discharged and is kept on the event card.
