Conor McGregor announced his retirement from MMA, in the early hours of this Tuesday (26), but the controversies still continue in the Irishman's life. This afternoon the news broke that the fighter is being investigated by the Irish police over an allegation of sexual assault against a woman, which occurred in December 2018.

The news was published by the North American newspaper 'The New York Times' citing four sources linked to the case.
According to the alleged victim, the crime took place at the Beacon Hotel, near the city of Dublin, capital of Ireland. At the time, McGregor was detained in January, questioned by authorities and released. The case remains under investigation and there is still no formal accusation against the fighter.
Amid speculation, Karen J. Kessler, personal advisor to Conor McGregor, released a statement stating that the fighter's retirement has no connection with the process in Ireland. She even made a point of calling the accusation a rumor.
“This story has been circulating for some time and it is unclear why it is being reported now. The presumption that Conor's retirement announcement today is related to this rumor is absolutely false. If Conor fights in the future, it must be in an environment where fighters are respected for their value, their skills, their hard work and their dedication to the sport”, says the statement.
