After much speculation, the real reason for Gesias Cavalcante not continuing in the Dream lightweight GP was finally revealed, despite the defeat to Shynia Aoki in the unanimous decision of the judges, as the Japanese suffered a fractured face. According to MMAweekly, the Brazilian was interested in continuing, however, a knee injury prevented him from accepting the proposal.
It was not clear whether the injury was caused by the hold applied by Aoki in the first round. Gesias has been resting and recovering from his injury, while the Japanese black belt decided to continue in the competition and carry on the favoritism he achieved after beating the two-time Heroes GP champion.
