The premiere of Raulian paiva in Ultimate it wasn't the way the Amapá native expected. The Brazilian flyweight fought a tough fight against the New Zealander Kai Kara France on the preliminary card of UFC 234, held this Saturday (09), in Melbourne (AUS). But after 15 minutes, he was defeated in a split decision by the judges (28-29, 28-29, 29-28).

The fight
The flyweights started the fight trying to find the correct distance to launch their blows. The New Zealander took the initiative and with a cross made the Brazilian bend his knee. In response, Raulian threw low kicks at his opponent and attempted a takedown, but to no avail. The confrontation remained balanced until the final seconds. Upon realizing the end of time, Paiva went up and threw punches, kicks and a flying knee.
Raulian started the second round putting pressure on his rival. The New Zealander attacked the Brazilian's legs and attempted a takedown. However, the Amapá native defended himself and placed his opponent with his back on the ground and worked in the 100kg position. However, the rival quickly left the position. The two athletes exchanged hard blows in the center of the cage. Kai-Kara applied a sequence of straight right and left cross that made Raulian wobble. With just a few seconds remaining, the Brazilian athlete placed a guillotine choke on his rival's neck, but Kai was saved by the bell.
The third round returned with the two fighters exchanging in the center of the Octagon. The Brazilian combined a series of straight shots and crosses and his opponent responded with hard-hitting blows. Raulian landed a kick to his rival's genital region and the fight was stopped. With the return of the fight, Kai went after the Amapá man who dodged. In response, Raulian connected with a jab and cross. Showing Amapá's strength, Paiva went up and landed a hook to the body, but was countered with a left. In the final seconds, Reulian reached his rival for the open fight, but the bell sounded soon after.
