UFC Brooklyn: Cejudo runs over Dillashaw, defends belt and keeps flyweight division alive

In an almost perfect performance, Cejudo defends his belt for the first time and ends - at least for now - with rumors of the end of the flyweight division

The fly division (up to 56,7 kg.) lives in the UFC. Amid rumors about the end of the category, the champion Henry Cejudo was the first big upset of the year 2019. He defended his reign for the first time in front of TJ Dillashaw, bantamweight champion (up to 61,2 kg.), who dropped down a category to try to win his second belt and, consequently, close the lower weight class. But with a devastating knockout in just 32 seconds, Cejudo guarantees, at least temporarily, the continuity of his division. The fight was the main attraction of UFC Brooklyn, an event held this Saturday (19), in New York (USA).

The victory earned Cejudo another important milestone: it was the fastest triumph in the entire history of the category. Still in the cage, the champion asked Dana White, president of the UFC, that the flyweight division not be abolished.

“Thanks to the fans, I beat one of the best of all time. It's surreal. I knew he was hurt, I managed to land the kick well that paved the way for the end of the fight. Dana White, where are you? Do not hide. I came here, this victory is much bigger than me, it's to maintain the flyweight category. Let's do this fight in the top category. I know the weight cut was really big for you (Dillashaw). Dana, let's keep this category. Cejudo needs to be paid”, declared a euphoric champion.[

The fight

Rated as an underdog at the bookmakers, Cejudo started the fight with everything. In the first few seconds he fired a high kick that went close to his rival's head. TJ tried to respond, but was knocked off balance with a kick to the base. The flyweight champion took advantage of the moment and went for it. He threw several punches that caused Dillashaw to fall. Stunned, the challenger still managed to stay on his feet, but with another combination he went to the ground again and the referee ended the dispute in just 32 seconds.
