Ryan was the first fighter to beat BJ by submission. With this, he caught the attention of the UFC Hall of Famer who was impressed with his fighting style.

“I was impressed with how deep Ryan was able to sink his leg right after the somersault. The timing was perfect. I tried to run and pull my leg out, but I wasn't going anywhere as my knee was still stuck inside his hips. So I tried to defend my knee and lifted it. By the time I looked back, he had already switched to the heel hook and my ankle just popped,” BJ explained.

The MMA legend said his ankle remains swollen two weeks after UFC 232. “It's swollen. There are some bruises. But it wasn't my knee, it was my ankle that snapped. And that's it. We have to take our hat off to Ryan Hall, that finish was the perfect storm”, concluded the ‘Prodigy’.
