The first fight on the main card offered the public a taste of what the night had in store for UFC 232. Alex Volkanovski took a beating from Chad Mendes in the first minutes of the fight. But, in a surprising turn of events, the Australian landed a strong elbow that knocked out the North American. 'Great' beat 'Money' by technical knockout at 4:14 of the second round.

The first fight on the main card got off to a busy start. Mendes landed two crosses on Volkanovski who withstood the pressure. The featherweights smiled as they exchanged blows. Chad tried to take down his rival who quickly got up. In response, Volkanovski hit a high kick that stopped in the American's guard. Thus, the first round came to an end.
Mendes came back looking to end the fight. He applied a sequence of strikes with (flying knee, hook and cross) that made his opponent fall. However, Alex got up quickly. Chad grabbed his opponent's legs, went to his back and tried to apply a rear naked choke. Volkanovski got out of the grip and landed an elbow on the American's temple that made him fall to the ground, knocked out.
With sharp jiu-jitsu, Chiesa submitted Carlos Condit
Michael chiesa He showed Ultimate that he can be a great welterweight fighter. In its debut in the category, 'Maverick' dominated Carlos Condit and landed a kimura at 56 seconds of the second round.
With the triumph, Chiesa put an end to the losing streak and recorded his first victory in two years. The former interim welterweight champion has his fifth consecutive defeat in the franchise and is in danger.
The first round started quickly. Condit landed a high kick and a series of punches. Chiesa stuck to his rival's legs and took him down. Michael worked inside the guard and went to the back, but the opponent got up. 'Maverick' took the fight to the ground and worked on the position. Carlos managed to lunge and grabbed the arm of his opponent who managed to get out. The fight went to the ground and the fighters tried to finish with jiu-jitsu moves.
The second round began with the fighters taking the fight to the ground again. Chiesa managed to apply a tight kimura that made his opponent give him three taps.
Corey Anderson defeats Ilir Latifi in unanimous decision
Ilir Latifi entered the Octagon confident of victory and came to dominate Corey anderson in the first round. However, after the second round the Swiss felt the rhythm and was dominated by the North American's speed and hard-hitting blows. After 15 minutes, 'Overtime' scored a victory over 'Sledgehammer' in a unanimous judges' decision (29-28, 29-28, 29-28).
With the triumph, Anderson adds his third victory in Ultimate and breaks Latifi's two-year hegemony. Ilir's last defeat was to Ryan bader in September 2016 at UFC Hamburg.
The clash began with the fighters trying to find the distance and speed for the blows to land. Latifi landed a kick to the calf and received a tit-for-tat attack from his rival. Ilir tried to take the fight to the ground, but Anderson resisted and didn't let him. 'Sledgehammer' threatened to use a guillotine, but gave up and punched his opponent in the face. Corey, seeing the disadvantage, tried to attack the Swiss fighter in the last seconds.
Corey came back faster in the second round and landed hard blows to his rival's face. Latifi tried to lasso his rival's legs, but couldn't get the takedown, but instead pinned him to the railing. Anderson went on the attack and increased the pace of the fight when he saw his opponent's fatigue. The North American tried to dive at Ilir's legs, which he blocked.
The third round started slower and the fighters showed fatigue from the attacks in the first 10 minutes. Anderson tried to get closer, but his rival tried to escape. Ilir surprised the audience by placing a high round kick into his rival's guard. With 10 seconds left, the athletes went all or nothing and threw some blows. When the gong sounded, the heavies shook hands.
