Joseph Benavidez will be a reserve for the superfight between Cejudo and Dillashaw at UFC Brooklyn

The American called for a flyweight title fight after beating Alex Perez by technical knockout at the TUF 28 Finale in November

Joseph Benavidez won Alex Perez by technical knockout at the TUF 28 Finale in November and resumed his winning ways. The North American has already had two opportunities to fight for the flyweight belt in Ultimate and asked again for a fight for the category title after the presentation. He was scheduled to face Deiveson Figueiredo at UFC 233, but was transferred to be the reserve for the superfight between Henry Cejudo e TJ Dillashaw for the category belt at UFC Brooklyn.

“You don’t always get the things you like. I would rather fight than just grieve, but that's another thing. It's also not like any of the champions have any problems, because I know how hard they worked to get there. But if someone falls, I also have that opportunity. There are a ton of options on the table and I'm ready for them all. I’ll be in Brooklyn ready to fight for the title,” said Benavidez in an interview with the North American website MMA Junkie.

Joseph had the chance to fight for the bantamweight belt on two occasions. The first was at UFC 152 in September 2012 for his inaugural title, when Demetrius Johnson defeated him via unanimous decision. The second time, Benavidez faced 'Mighty Mouse' in December 2013 at UFC Sacramento and was defeated by knockout in the first round.

At 34, Joseph Benavidez He has a record of 31 fights, with 26 triumphs and five setbacks. In his last eight fights, Joseph has won seven and lost just one to Sergio Pettis at UFC 225 in June this year. The American fighter was away from the octagon between 2016 and 2018 due to an injury.
