UFC Denver: Davi Ramos submits American and scores third consecutive victory

On November 12, 1993 Royce gracie submitted three opponents to take the UFC 1 title. This Saturday night, at UFC Denver, an event that celebrates the franchise's 25th anniversary, Davi ramos followed the same path as his compatriot. On the preliminary card of the attraction, the Brazilian lightweight took no notice of John Gunther and managed to secure a fair choke on his rival to win the fight in the first round.

With the triumph, Davi reaches his ninth victory as a professional and his third consecutive in the UFC. He also has two defeats – one in Ultimate. With the positive series, the Brazilian is already dreaming of higher flights.

“I feel amazing. I have many things to improve. I trained my striking to show here, but I knew he would come to try to put me down, and that's my area. He kicked me there, I managed to use the opportunity, and once I put my jiu-jitsu on the ground, I won. There are three submissions in a row”, said the Brazilian, already aiming for a future title fight. “I want to fight the best guys, I want to fight the number 1. I'm coming step by step and I want to be the champion of my division. No one can defeat me here”, concluded Davi.

The fight

As soon as the dispute began, Davi preferred not to risk fighting on his feet and in the first few moves he managed to close the distance and take down Gunther. Black belt in jiu-jitsu, multiple times world champion, the Brazilian showed his superiority. He quickly reached his back and applied the choke. The North American still tried to defend, but Ramos adjusted the choke and forced his rival to give up the fight just 1m57s into the duel.

Controversy and VAR in the fight between Moffett x Skelly

The controversy also appeared at the UFC's 25th anniversary party. In the fight between Bobby Moffett and Chas Skelly, even VAR had to take action to decide the winner. In the second round of the featherweight fight, Moffett landed a hand triangle and tried to end the fight, but Skelly showed a reaction. However, the referee interrupted the dispute and ruled that Chas Skelly had fainted. The fighter complained to the mediator and he was called to review the submission outside the octagon (see the action below).

After more than five minutes of waiting, the referee said Skelly had no strength in his arms and confirmed Bobby Moffett's submission.
