The story was written at Madison Square Garden, in New York (USA). For the first time in the history of Ultimate, an athlete champion in two simultaneous categories managed to defend the belt in one of them. The owner of the feat is Daniel Cormier. Light heavyweight champion (up to 93,1 kg.), defended the heavyweight title (up to 125 kg.) against the giant Derrick Lewis in the main fight of UFC 230, held this Saturday night (03), in 'Grande Maça'.

At the end of the event, Cormier forgot Jon Jones, the only rival who defeated him and who returns to action in December, and aimed his target at Brock Lesnar. The former Ultimate champion and WWE star is expected to return to competing in MMA soon.

PUBLICITY:

“People have to understand that I've been doing this for nine years. At a high level, always. There is no surprise for me. To hit me, you have to be one of the best in the world. Derrick is good, but he's not at that level yet. Brock Lesnar, when you come, bring your WWE belt. I want to feel like a WWE champion too (laughs). Come on, provoked the champion

The fight

Cormier entered the Octagon knowing exactly what he had to do to defend his belt: avoid a fight and take down Lewis at the first opportunity. And that's exactly what the champion did. At the beginning of the dispute, the challenger tried to break free in the fight. Clearly bigger and stronger, Derrick fired low kicks, high kicks and dangerous punches. However, at the first opportunity, the champion closed the distance and took the fight to the ground.

On top, Cormier showed all his superiority. He weighed his arm on Lewis's face and struck at close range. Still breathing hard, the challenger managed to get off the ground, but was quickly taken down afterwards. The champion controlled the dispute until the bell sounded.

After superiority in the first round, the champion came back looser for the second round. He kept the contest standing and let Lewis attack, firing several powerful but inaccurate blows. However, in the first attack, Cormier lifted the challenger's leg and managed a beautiful takedown. Derrick still managed to get up, but when he tried to return to the center of the octagon, Daniel grabbed his ankle and took the fight to the ground. From then on, the champion hit from above, making his opponent give up his back to land a fair rear naked choke and achieve victory.
