Cris Cyborg admits doping and apologizes to fans

The Brazilian Chris Cyborg was caught in an anti-doping test of Strikeforce, held on December 17th. In this ocasion, the Brazilian knocked out the Japanese Hiroko Yamanaka in just 16 seconds and defended the women's featherweight belt. But with the confirmation of doping, Cris had the result of the fight changed to “No Contest” (no result) and could have the category title.

This weekend, one day after the results were announced, the Tupiniquim athlete, who tested positive for stanozolol, released an open letter in which she admits her mistake in ingesting a product that helped her lose weight for the fight.

“I was having a lot of difficulty losing weight for my fight against Hiroko and I was offered a supplement that was presented to me and confirmed as not being prohibited for use in sports competitions… My only mistake was not checking this supplement with my doctor beforehand. of use”, said the Brazilian.

Check out the letter below Chris Cyborg in full:

I would like to apologize to Strikeforce, the Zuffa organization, Hiroko yamanaka and my fans for the results of my drug test.

PUBLICITY:

I am solely responsible for everything I put into my system, and at the end of the day, there is no excuse for having a banned substance in my body. I do not condone the use of performance enhancers by myself or any other professional athlete, and therefore accept the penalties and fines that have been presented to me by the California State Athletic Commission and the Strikeforce/Zuffa organization.

I was having a lot of difficulty losing weight for my fight against Hiroko and I was offered a supplement that was presented to me and confirmed as not being prohibited for use in sports competitions. It was never my intention to gain an unfair advantage over my opponent or to deceive Strikeforce, the Athletic Commission or my fans. I train a lot and I'm very dedicated and I don't need drugs to win in the Octagon, as I've proven in my previous fights. My only mistake was not checking this supplement with my doctor before use. Unfortunately in the end, I have to suffer the consequences and accept all responsibility for my actions.

PUBLICITY:

I will do everything to show my fans that I can compete at the professional level without using any banned substance to enhance my performance, and I ask God for forgiveness for my mistake.

Cristiane Dos Santos, Curitiba, Brazil, January 7, 2012.

For me it is sad to know that this great fighter, Cris Cyborg, lost her title of champion due to doping. Who doesn't know that there is no MMA winner without having taken some steroids? It would be nice if there was no doping, but that's something everyone does, so taking away the title from this GODDESS because of that is regrettable. But it won't be anything, Cris, soon you will be champion again, because in this sport you have no opponent!…
