With surgery scheduled, Woodley rules out a fight against Covington at UFC 230

The 'Chosen One' ruptured three ligaments in his right thumb and will have to undergo a surgical procedure in October

A fight for the unification of the welterweight belt between Tyron woodley e Colby covington was considered for UFC 230, on November 3 in New York (USA). The 'Chosen One' was waiting for medical clearance to make the confrontation official. However, the fighter will need to undergo surgery on his thumb in October. Therefore, Ultimate will need to postpone the duel until 2019.

During combat with Darren till, Woodley dislocated his right thumb and did not know the extent of the injury. After carrying out further tests, three ligaments were found to have ruptured. Therefore, Tyron will have to undergo a surgical procedure that could leave him out of the octagon for up to three months.

In an interview with the website of the North American channel ESPN, Tyron woodley revealed that the surgery is scheduled for October. Therefore, the lineal champion will not be able to face Covington in the main event in New York.

“I dislocated my thumb in the fight [against Darren till] and in doing so I tore three ligaments. I will have minor surgery to provide more stability for my hand and minimize the possibility of arthritis,” said Woodley.

The welterweight champion has 23 clashes in his career, with 19 wins, three defeats and one draw. Woodley won the belt in July 2016, when he won Robbie Lawler. Since then, she has staged four title defenses against Stephen Thompson, Demian Maia e Darren till.
