Paulo borrachinha had his confrontation Yoel romero at UFC 230, on November 03rd, postponed to January 18th, 2019. Even so, the Brazilian maintains his confidence and guarantees that he is not worried about the Cuban. In an interview on “Media Day” on Tuesday (29), the Minas Gerais middleweight chose Luke Rockhold as the toughest opponent in the category.

“I think the hardest one is Rockhold. He likes to fight standing up, I do too, he has a good wingspan. His only problem is mental, psychological. When it comes to “let’s see” it doesn’t work. It was like that with Bisping, with Romero himself... Romero knocked him out, which was something that I, when I announced the fight, didn't foresee. When it’s time to “let’s see” he slips. But if he focused, because I think he's not focused, he would perhaps be a great candidate for the title,” said Borrachinha.

When asked about his duel with Romero, the Minas Gerais native bet that the fight would not last even two rounds. Borrachinha believes it will be a low difficulty fight.

“It doesn’t matter if it’s three or five rounds because I won’t even do two with him, or with anyone else. He'll want to grab it and I'll make my strategy against this game, which I'm more than used to. Against (Johny) Hendricks it was the same thing, keeping the distance, straight and long blows to make him feel the weight. I think it's very easy to fight anyone who wants to take you down. You know he's going to want to get closer, you just need to keep your distance and strike. Mainly Romero, who is smaller”, explained Paulo.

Paulo accused Romero of forcing Ultimate to renew his contract so that the fight between them could be confirmed. Even so, the Brazilian did the same after the triumph against Hendricks and signed a new agreement with the company. The new contract paid him more than US$100 per fight. In his last fight against Uriah Hall, he pocketed $160. US$55 for the fight, plus a US$55 victory bonus, plus US$50 for the “Performance of the Night” bonus. The information is from the Nevada Athletic Commission (NAC).

“The UFC called me to renew my contract for my second fight. After UFC Rio, when I knocked out. It's a different thing. I had a contract for four fights. I said: “So they already saw different value in me”. I asked for a very high amount, they said it was well above what they usually paid. They made me an offer to have a fight and then negotiate, which was the fight with Hendricks. I said: “Okay, but after that I’ll ask for more.” They made a bet with me. If I lost, I would possibly go down to what they offered. I won, renegotiated and we renewed the contract. The value exceeded the first order. It was more than US$100”, concluded the Brazilian.
