Bellator president wants Eddie Alvarez back in the franchise

With the former lightweight champion's contract with Ultimate ending, former boss Scott Coker is considering bringing him back to the organization

Eddie Alvarez was one of Bellator's first champions and one of Bellator's greatest fighters in his six years of participation. With his contract with the UFC coming to an end, the president of the rival franchise, Scott Coker, sees an opportunity to talk to the fighter and bring him back to the organization.

“If he wants to talk and he will be a free fighter, we won’t be interfering with anyone’s contract. We would love to talk to him. I think the guy did a good job building his brand here in the USA”, said the president in an interview with the program “The MMA Hour”.

Alvarez was Bellator's first lightweight champion in 2009 and held that title until losing it to Michael chandler, two years later, in one of the best fights in MMA history. Alvarez regained the Bellator belt from Chandler in 2013 and vacated it when he signed with the UFC.

“Obviously, he had some big fights with Michael chandler here in the past. We want to talk to all the free agents who are big stars, and I think Eddie is still a big star,” Coker said.

In the last two years, Bellator has managed to attract former Ultimate fighters: Gegard Mousasi, Rory McDonald e Lyoto Machida.

At 34 years old, Eddie Alvarez won the UFC lightweight belt in his fourth fight in the organization against Rafael dos Anjos. He beat fighters like Gilbert Melendez, Anthony Pettis, and Justin gaethje. Alvarez has won titles in Reality Fighting, Bodog Fight, Dream, Bellator and UFC.
