Alexander Gustafsson admits Daniel Cormier is 'better at heavyweight'

Alexander Gustafson is one of the main fighters in the UFC light heavyweight category, and criticized the division champion, Daniel Cormier for moving up to heavyweight for the superfight against the belt holder, Stipe Miocic. In an interview with the “MMA Fighting” website, the Swede left the rivalry aside and admitted that DC is 'better at heavyweight' due to the way he beat the former champion at UFC 226.

“He was great. I was impressed with the way he finished Stipe and how he won the fight. I'm very impressed with the guy, he was great”, explained Gustafsson.

Having won two belts and showing his capabilities in the top division, Alexander feels that Cormier has found his place in the heavyweight division. “I think he’s better at heavyweight than he is at light heavyweight. I think he's stronger, he can eat and doesn't need to stress about his weight. I think he will do even better as a heavyweight. I had a feeling he was going to win the fight, but the way he ended [the fight] – it's probably the wrong thing to say, but he made it look easy,” said Mauler.

Recalling his confrontation with Cormier, Gustafsson confessed that he didn't remember that his rival had such a strong punch. He also guaranteed that his opponent is a hard-working athlete who doesn't stop fighting. “[Cormier's punching power] wasn't that bad [when we fought],” Gustafsson said, recalling his own battle against Cormier, which he lost via split decision. “I don't remember him punching me that hard. I've fought guys who are tougher, but he's a hard worker. He keeps pressing and keeps throwing punches. He’s very good at wrestling and he doesn’t stop fighting – I think that’s his biggest strength,” he concluded.

The next fight Alexander Gustafson will be at UFC 227 against Volkan oezdemir in Los Angeles on August 04th. The Swede comes from two victories over Glover Teixeira e Jan Blachowicz.
