Yoel Romero's trainer admits he considered throwing in the towel at UFC 225

The Cuban suffered great wear and tear and no longer listened to the coaches between the third and fourth rounds, so the team considered abandoning the fight.

The middleweight champion, Robert whittaker e Yoel romero they had their rematch during UFC 225. The fight would have been for the category title, but the Cuban was unable to make weight. In the third round the Cuban attacked the New Zealander and according to the American Top Team's 'Soldier of God' coach, the fighter was exhausted, could no longer listen and for that reason he thought about throwing in the towel.

“It was a comment made by [Jorge] Masvidal who was in Romero’s corner. They noticed that Romero was exhausted and that he wasn't really listening to anyone or paying attention, that's when Masvidal told him 'my friend, it's only five more minutes, but if you continue like this, I'm going to throw in the towel' when Romero heard the word 'towel', he got up quickly, took a deep breath, walked around and then got better and put the final pressure on”, he explained.

ATT's motivation took Yoel until the last round, but it wasn't enough to win the victory. Even so, the five rounds were very competitive between the athletes, but Whittaker won by split decision.

An upcoming fight to complete the trilogy has been considered, but Whittaker has no interest in that anytime soon after two wins over Romero.
