The start of UFC Utica was not good for the Brazilians. The event, held this Friday (01), in New York (USA), featured two athletes from the country on the preliminary card and both left the Octagon defeated. The bantamweight Johnny Eduardo (up to 62,1kg.) started the fight well, but was submitted by the Englishman Nathaniel Wood. Lightweight (up to 70,3kg) Gleison Tibau was unable to find his footing in the fight and lost to Desmond Green in a unanimous decision by the judges.
Tibau loses 4th in a row and gets complicated
Gleison Tibau and Desmond Green stepped into the octagon in Utica with the responsibility of winning. Coming from series of defeats, rehabilitation was essential for the athletes. And it was the North American who took the weight off their shoulders.
Specialists in ground fighting, Tibau and Green kept the entire duel on their feet. The taller North American managed to keep the duel at medium distance, avoid the attacks of the Potiguar and land straight blows to score points.
In the second round, Tibau did not try to take down his rival, but all his attacks were well defended. Green kept the fight standing and fired straight strikes. The attacks were not forceful, but it was enough to score points.
The Brazilian tried to open the game in the third round, insisted on takedowns, but was unable to put his tactics into play. The North American took advantage of Tibau's desperation and with a beautiful blow he knocked him down. Tibau still managed to get up, but did not pose any danger to his rival until the end of the fight.
In the end, the three judges unanimously scored the victory for Desmond Green (30-27, 29-27, 30-27).
Johnny Eduardo falters and loses competition to English
Johnny Eduardo, 39 years old, and Nathaniel Wood, aged 25, would create a duel for generations between two experts in stand-up fighting. But it was on the ground that the duel went the way of the Englishman.
The duel had a balanced start. Wood took the initiative with low kicks and jab combinations, but Eduardo quickly found the distance and was more forceful in his attacks. On yet another opportunity, the Brazilian placed his rival against the bars and even broke his rival's nose. But he didn't add volume and let Nathaniel recover.
In the second round, the duel remained balanced on the feet, with a slight advantage for the Brazilian. But, in an unexpected move, Johnny Eduardo He attacked the Englishman's legs and tried to take him down. Wood made the defensive move, dominated the Nova União athlete's neck, placed the hand triangle and forced him to give up
“Johnny is a great veteran, I was little and he was already fighting. I knew it would be a tough fight, he hurt me with some punches, but I come from adversity. I took advantage of the moment he attempted the takedown... People say I don't have a ground game... the result is there,” said Wood, still in the octagon.
