In 2017 at the UFC in São Paulo, the Colby covington won Demian Maia by points, but what caught the attention of the card were Covington's insults to Demian and the Brazilian people. The Brazilian Rafael dos Anjos is the American's next opponent for the interim welterweight title (77 kg) at UFC 225 on June 09 in Chicago. The Brazilian claims that Colby is trying to be McGregor.
“I think Colby is just trying to [be Conor McGregor]. Conor does well. Conor, he's a rich man, he makes a lot of money. He's a businessman and I can respect that. But Colby, he's just a worse version of Conor McGregor. He's trying to be like Conor, but when he loses to me, his career is over. All he has is talk, nothing more,” dos Anjos said.

In an interview with the “MMAFighting” website, Rafael also explained that he is not impressed with what he has seen from his opponent so far.
“You don't say anything when you see people face to face, man. You are a fraud. You just look at your phone. You just put your head down and don't even look around. If you're trying to be a bad guy, you have to be a bad guy all the time. Don’t be fake”, said the Brazilian to Covington.
The Brazilian also sent a message to his opponent: “Hey, little boy. I will fight you next week.”
Former UFC lightweight champion dos Anjos seeks the belt in a second weight class after achieving a perfect 3-0 record with victories over Robbie Lawler, Neil Magny e Tarec saffiedine.
Colby covington comes from five consecutive victories. In this sequence, the American beat Jonathan Menier, Max griffin, Bryan barberena, Dong Hyun Kim and Demian Maia. The North American has not been defeated since December 2015 when he was submitted by Warlley alves.
