Interview with Jorge Michelan

In an exclusive interview to the site SUPER FIGHTS, highlighted in the latest edition of Fury Fight, along with Rousimar Toquinho, Jorge Michelan, Brasa athlete, tells internet users a little about his history in the world of fights, as well as future perspectives

Super Fights: Do you already have a fight scheduled?

Jorge Michelan: Not yet, but there are some things to be sorted out by the end of April.

Super Fights: Tell internet users a little about your history in jiu-jitsu and later in MMA

Jorge Michelan: I started jiu-jitsu 10 years ago with Roberto Lage, then I started training with a Rocian Gracie student, I trained with the Gracie people for 5 years, today I'm at Brasa, 4 years ago. I am currently a Leozinho brown belt. I started in MMA right when I joined Brasa, I trained with Josuel “Distak” at the time he Vitor belfort I was training here in São Paulo, soon after there was a small separation, between Vitor and Distak, with this, Josué (Distak) left for his city, from then on we took shape in MMA training, with Léozinho pulling all parts of MMA.

PUBLICITY:

Super Fights: Is it possible to combine jiu-jitsu with MMA?

Jorge Michelan: It's quite complicated because when there's an MMA fight we have to focus 100% on specific training: boxing, submission, etc., so it's a little off topic, we end up not having time to train everything, but when there's no MMA fight we can fight Yes, there is plenty of time and there is always time to put on the kimono!!

PUBLICITY:

Super Fights: Do you still intend to compete in a cloth jiu-jitsu competition in 2008?

Jorge Michelan: It's very complicated to answer this because I came from jiu-jitsu and at any moment I can put on the cloth and enter some competition even though I don't train much anymore. But at the moment I don't intend to compete in anything cloth, I'm focused 1000% on MMA.

All the fighters under 84kg who fought at Fury and had a good role, are fighting outside Brazil, such as Acacio listed for the Dream GP, Fábio Negão in the team at Rampage, Toquinho signed with the UFC, Gil Freitas fighting in Japan… Is this your expectation?

PUBLICITY:

Jorge Michelan: Certainly some things have already appeared and by the end of April I will have some answers, but while I don't fight I'm training a lot with the people at Brasa.

Super Fights: Clarify one question for us…What is your record in MMA? According to Sherdog you have 3 wins and 1 loss… However, before your fight against Batata at Fury 5 your record was announced as 6 wins and 2 losses, therefore, after your submission it would be 7 wins and 2 losses

Jorge Michelan: I have 7 fights, 5 wins and 2 losses, this is my record

Super Fights: So both of them made a mistake? Laughter

Jorge Michelan: (laughs) This ends up disturbing me, each event says something…Laughs

Super Fights: At Fury FC he was in the reserve fight. In your interview you said that you were prepared to beat Batata and would make “noise” in the final. Is it difficult to be in this situation, having to win and wait for something that isn't expected to happen in order to fight for a belt, a contract with the UFC and a purse of 40 thousand reais? What is the fighter's mind like at this time?

Jorge Michelan: This is very complicated, I was prepared to do another fight, I had trained a lot for it, but just the fact that I had beaten a fighter of Batata's level already comforted me a lot, in our life everything has its time, it wasn't meant to be. being there fighting in the final…..Toquinho had more to deserve victory on the day than I did……My head was calm, because I know that God has the best for my life….

Super Fights: You beat Batata, who went on to defeat Toquinho in a fight in Brasília a few years ago, a fight I actually watched on VHS. You wore out a little in the fight against Batata, you were possibly more rested than Toquinho and Daniel Acácio…..I imagine it must be going through your head if you had the chance to fight in the final against either of the 2

Jorge Michelan: Of course, I was hoping to face Acácio, because I had never seen Toquinho fight someone as renowned as Acacio, even though a name doesn't win the fight, but in the case of Acácio it's an exception, I was already coming up with a strategy to face him. Acácio on the day, but unfortunately I couldn't enter the final, but I'm sure if I had faced either of the two it would have been a good fight.

Super Fights: In its category, we see a broad dominance of Brazilians on the world stage. Paulo and Anderson Silva has the titles of the main American categories (WEC and UFC). In addition to beasts like Cachorrão, Toquinho, Murilo Bustamante, Ninja…..
In addition to the fighters who stood out in Fury and seek space in World MMA… Like you, Fábio Negão, Daniel Acacio. Is this number of Brazilian beasts weighing up to 84kg good or bad for you? Since competition increases a lot?

Jorge Michelan: I think there's no problem, the same space we have here in Brazil, we'll have outside, and there we'll have the same possibilities to face each other... I think competition isn't the problem, whoever stands out the most will do better and gain space……

Super Fights: I commented on Paulão and Anderson Silva. Without mincing words, who is the best of the 2?

(Laughter) Difficult question, but at the moment the best one is Anderson Silva Why are you fighting more?

Super Fights: Some time ago, the Demian Maia stated that he would leave Brasa to dedicate himself to MMA, recently, Marcelinho Garcia left Alliance to transfer to ATT as he wanted to improve his game in MMA. Do renowned jiu-jitsu and submission teams need to prepare a lot to have a good structure for MMA athletes?

Certainly, the big problem is not the team, but the “structure” we have a very good structure in terms of the “team” and very good human material, Mauro xuxa, Rodrigo Ruiz, Caiçara, Dieguinho, Baby, Ricardo Pantcho, and all the jiu-jitsu guys….
The striking team is great, we have PACO who is a great boxing coach, we have all the possible structure in training….Everyone does what they think is best, Demian thought it would be better to prepare him for this fight on another team, if He thinks this will be better for him, good luck... but he's still from Brasa, he has many friends on other teams, he's looking for the best for himself.
