Medeiros, who was knocked out with two seconds remaining in the first round, raised the possibility of having continued in the dispute if the fight's mediator had been Mário Yamasaki. The referee received several criticisms for having prolonged the dispute between Priscila PedritaValentina Shevchenko at UFC Belém, at the beginning of the month, when the Brazilian suffered a harsh punishment without being able to defend herself.

PUBLICITY:

“Cerrone caught me with a good right hand with two seconds left. He hurt me and the referee stopped the fight. I felt like I could continue, but the referee didn't see it that way. We have an inside joke with my team: 'Damn, where was Mario (Yamasaki) when you needed him?' joked Medeiros, in an interview with the North American website 'MMA Junkie'.

Despite claiming that he was capable of continuing in the fight, Yancy Medeiros does not blame referee Herb Dean for the setback. According to him, it is the mediator's obligation to guarantee the safety of the athletes.

PUBLICITY:

“Obviously, I know the referee is there to ensure our safety. Obviously, Herb Dean didn't see that I was safe enough to continue, so it's his call. I have to learn. I have to make adjustments, but I'll be back,' he added.
