Even with victory at UFC 221, Romero receives 180 days of medical suspension

Cuban fighter suffered a finger injury and will only be able to compete again in August or until he is cleared by an orthopedist

Yoel romero was the big winner of UFC 221, an event held last Saturday, in Perth (AUS). Middleweight defeated Luke Rockhold by knockout and sealed his chance for the category belt. However, the Cuban may have to wait a long time for his rematch against the champion Robert whittaker.

The Western Australian Combat Sports Commission, the event's sanctioning body, released medical suspensions from the show and Romero received a 180-day suspension. As a result, the Cuban would only be able to compete again in August.

Despite the long suspension, Romero could return to competing before the end of the period. But to do so, an independent orthopedist needs to assess the injury he suffered to the finger on his left hand and authorize his return.

In addition to Romero, six other athletes who competed at UFC 221 were suspended for six months: Luke Rockhold, Curtis blaydes, Dong Hyun Kim, Rob Wilkinson, José Quinonez and Luke Jumeau.
