Just over a month after winning the UFC middleweight belt over Michael Bisping, Georges St Pierre announced that he gave up the title in favor of the interim champion, who became linear, Robert whittaker. GSP indicated that he would need to take care of an illness and that he would not be able to defend the belt in a timely manner and preferred not to leave the division tied up. However, the problem may be more serious than imagined and force you to retire.

Who points out the possibility is John Danaher, the Canadian's jiu-jitsu coach. One of the main instructors at Renzo Gracie's gym in New York, Danaher admitted that colitis, an infection in the large intestine, could leave GSP out of MMA permanently.
“It is possible (that he will retire for good). Definitely possible. I don't want to say yes or no because that's a personal decision Georges has to make. And more than that, it has to be something well thought out and not decided in the heat of the moment. This is a life-altering decision, so it has to be made based on how he reacts to the medications he is taking for his colitis. From what I understand, the medications take a long time to take effect, so we will have to wait”, commented Danaher, in an interview with the program The MMA Hour, guaranteeing that his pupil was very determined to return to the UFC and fight more.
“I don't like to see people fight because they feel like they have to fight. This is a very, very difficult sport. I don't think many people have any idea of the rigor it takes to prepare for a fight at the highest level (…) I know there was a fight, against Hendricks, in which he wasn't as motivated. But here, against Bisping, there was tremendous motivation, which was only slowed by the physical limits imposed by colitis,” he pointed out.
