McGregor apologizes for homophobic comments: 'I didn't mean to be disrespectful'

Conor McGregor, finally, spoke out after being caught saying homophobic words to the fighter André Fili, who had just defeated Artem Lobov, his training partner, right after UFC Poland, held on October 21st. Accused of homophobia by the LGBT community, the Irishman defended himself and claimed he had not intended to offend any class.

“I was whispering in his ear and I was talking about it, and I said what I said. I didn't mean to disrespect anyone in the LGBT community. I didn't mean to be disrespectful. (…) I campaigned, when we tried to legitimize same-sex marriage, I campaigned for that (…). It is what it is. I'm just going to apologize for what I said and that's it, and try to move on,” said Conor, in an interview with the Irish television program 'The Late Late Show'.

At the time, the fighter told Lobov: ““I thought you would erase him. What I'm saying is he's a faggot. I didn’t know he was a faggot.” Ultimate did not comment on the case. At the beginning of October, the Brazilian Fabricio Werdum was sentenced to do community work with the LGBT community after arguing with Tony Ferguson, whom he called 'maricon', a term considered homophobic.
