Present at a press conference to promote UFC 216 on October 7th, Fabricio Werdum fell out with Tony Ferguson and the two almost got into a fight in the middle of an interview. With a fight scheduled for the event against Derrick Lewis, “Vai Cavalo” was talking to an unidentified person while the lightweight answered a question. The American stopped his response to ask Werdum not to speak over him. However, the Brazilian didn't like how “El Cucuy” addressed him and the two began to argue.

Clearly irritated, Werdum began swearing at Ferguson first in Portuguese and then in Spanish. The former heavyweight champion once lived in Spain and speaks the language fluently, while the lightweight, who faces Kevin Lee in the main fight of UFC 216, he is of Hispanic descent. The two began to argue in Spanish and “Vai Cavalo” stood up, changing his tone when, in Spanish, Ferguson asked him to shut up.
“You can’t talk to me like that, you b…Talk to your division like that, you clown. Go get your ass… you clown. You're a dog.. You’re not going to talk to me like that, you f….. Clown…”, cursed Werdum.
Ferguson also got up to respond to the Brazilian, but the two were separated by a UFC employee, who removed Werdum from the table. Without the Brazilian's presence, the lightweight, who threatened to “submit” “Vai Cavalo” with an ankle lock, provoked the former champion.
“You see, a heavyweight trying to fight a lightweight. I already told you (the press). People won't like it when I get to the top. Werdum is getting into trouble, he was knocked out by Miocic…” said Ferguson.
