After several changes to the card, UFC Japan suffered a last-minute loss. Veteran Mizuto Hirota, 36 years old, had trouble breaking the featherweight limit of 65,7 kg. He was over 2 kg. above (68 kg.) and ended up being removed from the event. The decision was made by the event's medical team. The Japanese would face Charles Rosa at the opening of the main portion of the show. The American made weight and should receive his salary, regardless of not having fought.

Hirota already appeared to be more than dehydrated when he went to weigh himself. Journalists present at the official UFC Japan weigh-in reported that the Japanese man seemed dizzy and needed help getting to the scale. Afterwards, he faced Rosa, appearing to be slightly better and even apologizing to his then opponent for not making weight.

UFC Japan continues with 10 fights and starts at 20:20 pm (Brasília time), exceptionally this Friday. The event had already suffered another loss recently, this time in the main fight. The Brazilian Mauricio Shogun would return to the Saitama Super Arena, the stage for some of his greatest achievements, against Ovince St Preux. However, the former light heavyweight champion suffered a knee injury and was removed from the show – he will be replaced by Yushin Okami, who will move up to light heavyweight to return to the UFC after being fired a few years ago
