One of the greatest fighters in UFC history, Chuck Liddell was surpassed as the company's greatest light heavyweight champion by Jon Jones. However, the former fighter has been complimentary of “Bones” whenever he talks about him. That changed after the second time Jones was caught taking a drug test. For Liddell, it was 'obvious' that his successor used steroids.

In an interview with The MMA Hour, the former champion stated that, during Jones' first suspension, he seems to have decided to start using doping substances, as he felt a difference in the fighter's size.

“He is his own enemy. And he's a great fighter, I don't know why he decided that. I mean, it looks like he decided to use steroids during the time he was away. He still has the opportunity to defend himself, I think, but I don't know... It seems pretty obvious that he used steroids, especially considering the size difference. I don't know if he needed it, I think maybe he surrounded himself with the wrong people, and decided he wanted to use performance enhancing drugs and now he got caught. It’s sad,” commented Liddell, reiterating that he must have started using drugs during the period in which he was suspended.

“It seems like there has been a very big change in a short period of time. It seems like he has grown a lot in that short time. So, I don't know... I think that's where it started, but I don't know for sure. He hasn't said anything yet. Could it really be another contaminated supplement? I don't know. He will have the opportunity to defend himself, so we will see what happens”, he concluded.
