Amanda says she won't return until 2018: 'I'm going to take care of my sinusitis'

After the second defense of his bantamweight belt, Amanda nunes revealed that she will only return to the octagon in 2018. The chronic sinusitis that took her out of the duel with Valentina Shevchenko at UFC 213 it started to attack again recently and the Brazilian wants to take care of the problem definitively before her next fight. As she has just overcome the division's greatest challenge against the Peruvian this Saturday (9), at UFC 215, the Lioness revealed that she will undergo surgery to correct the problem.

“I shouldn’t fight anymore this year. I think I'm going to take a break because it's a problem that involves breathing too. Sometimes I can't even sleep at night. I have to take care of this problem definitively. I’m going to take a break and come back next year”, commented Amanda.

At the press conference after the victory over Shevchenko, Nunes revealed that doctors advised her to have surgery and revealed that she was not 100% ready for UFC 215 due to sinusitis.

“I'm still very sick, I still feel very congested, but I had to fight it. I wanted to shut this girl up. The doctors said I had to have this surgery, that I couldn't fight like this, but I wanted to shut her up. The doctors did everything they could to get me close to 100% for this fight, they left me almost there”, revealed Amanda, saying that the problem becomes worse when she needs to use the plane as a mode of transport.

“This happens more when I travel, the altitude bothers me and brings this whole problem back. Now, the first thing I'm going to do when I get back home will be this surgery”, he concluded.
