Through his personal Facebook, the ex-Bellator fighter thanked family and friends for their support, in addition to asking for “privacy”. The 31-year-old athlete was identified by police after his fingerprints were found at the crime scene. The bank that was robbed is on the same street as Da Silva's residence, in the Queens neighborhood.
“Crazy day, to say the least. I am truly touched by all the love and support I have received. I received all messages, calls, emails, etc. Thank you to my phenomenal lawyer. I'm at home and my rep is working hard to clear this up. As much as I want to talk about the allegations, my legal team has advised me not to give any details until the case is over. We are following all the necessary steps. All I ask is for everyone to respect my family during this difficult time and understand my distance. I don't have my cell phone. I should have it in the next few days. I'm ready to cooperate and clear my name. 'God gives the toughest battles to the strongest warriors.' Love is love”, posted the Brazilian.
Da Silva last fought at the historic Bellator 180 on June 24, when he was submitted via choke by Matt Rizzo. The Brazilian has been a professional since 2011 and has a record of six wins and nine losses, one of which was against aljamain sterling, one of the UFC's biggest bantamweight prospects.
