Fight Nights 73, a Russian MMA event, featured three renowned Brazilians on the card held this Monday (4), in Kaspiysk: Diego Brandao, Fabio Maldonado e Rousimar Toquinho, all with remarkable stints in the UFC. Of these, only light heavyweight Maldonado won, winning the show belt over Kurban Omarov. However, the highlight was the confusion during the fight between Brandão and Akhmet Aliev, which served as the night's main attraction.

During the second round, while guarding Aliev, the Brazilian was headbutted by the Russian and got angry. When the central referee separated the two to warn Aliev, Brandão threw an illegal pedal to his opponent's face. Soon after, he started complaining to the referee and asking to leave the cage. When Russian fans started throwing bottles at the Brazilian, Brandão climbed into the cage and left him, appearing irritated. The victory was given to Aliev by technical knockout (withdrawal).
Before that, however, Maldonado surprised by submitting Omarov with a guillotine choke, after a lackluster duel. Toquinho was defeated by Shamil Avirov in the judges' decision, in a controversial result. Both men ended the fight very tired, but the Brazilian seemed to have performed better in the first two rounds.
