Former UFC heavyweight champion, Fabricio Werdum entered the duel against alistair overeem one victory away from challenging for the belt again. However, in a controversial result, the Gaucho was beaten by the Dutchman and took a few steps back in his quest for the title he already had. To restart the journey towards a rematch with Stipe Miocic, “Vai Cavalo” intends to face Derrick Lewis.

In an interview with the Combate channel website, the Brazilian says he believes he will fight in one of the events that the UFC will hold in November. Lewis is also coming off a defeat – the American was knocked out by Mark Hunt, in June of this year, a few weeks before the Werdum fight.

"I think he (Derrick Lewis) will be my next opponent. Now we have to win, knock out and submit, to be able to get the belt right after,” commented Werdum, who also spoke about the controversial loss to Overeem.

“I won that fight, you saw it. Of course, nonconformity still exists. I was very sad with the result because I could fight for the belt again. And now it's going to slow me down a little bit. I filed the appeal to see what will happen, I'm waiting for the result to suddenly change it (…) I think (the scoring system) shouldn't be round by round. It would have to be a result of everything, of the three rounds. The 'general'. The system now is what harmed me. I think this change is possible, it’s worth the fighters coming together,” he declared.
