In an interview given to the international press before the duel against Woodley, Maia admitted that he would like to reach these two records, but that he doesn't want to think about it, as he intends to keep his focus solely on the champion.
“Two weeks ago I found myself thinking about these records and these possibilities, but now I've been trying to keep it out of my head. I don't want to lose my focus. Of course it would be great to achieve these marks, but records will be broken one day. What will be mine forever is the belt. That's why I'm going to do my best to get there on Saturday and win the fight”, commented Demian, who admitted that he was encouraged by his physical advantage over Woodley, despite warning that the American knows how to deal with the size disadvantage.
“I did notice the difference between us, when we looked at each other. But Woodley is experienced, he's a really good guy and used to fighting taller guys like Stephen Thompson, for example. But of course, if I can, I will use this difference to my advantage”, he pondered.
