Demian Maia will have, this Saturday (29), the opportunity to become welterweight champion when he faces Tyron woodley at UFC 214. Furthermore, the Brazilian will be able to equal the record for the number of victories in the history of Ultimate, which currently belongs to Michael Bisping, which has 20 triumphs. If the North American finishes, the jiu-jitsu representative will equalize Royce gracie as the greatest finisher in UFC history – the pioneer has 10, while Demian has nine. However, the Brazilian's focus remains entirely on the champion.

In an interview given to the international press before the duel against Woodley, Maia admitted that he would like to reach these two records, but that he doesn't want to think about it, as he intends to keep his focus solely on the champion.

“Two weeks ago I found myself thinking about these records and these possibilities, but now I've been trying to keep it out of my head. I don't want to lose my focus. Of course it would be great to achieve these marks, but records will be broken one day. What will be mine forever is the belt. That's why I'm going to do my best to get there on Saturday and win the fight”, commented Demian, who admitted that he was encouraged by his physical advantage over Woodley, despite warning that the American knows how to deal with the size disadvantage.

“I did notice the difference between us, when we looked at each other. But Woodley is experienced, he's a really good guy and used to fighting taller guys like Stephen Thompson, for example. But of course, if I can, I will use this difference to my advantage”, he pondered.
