Ultimate announced to Canadian broadcaster TSN, this Thursday (20), that the flyweight champion Demetrious Johnson will defend his 11th belt against Ray Borg in the main fight of UFC 215, on September 9th. The North American will have the opportunity to break a record Anderson Silva when he fights at UFC 215. If he gets past Borg, DJ will become the champion with the most defenses in UFC history. The event already features a dispute for the women's bantamweight title between the current holder Amanda nunes and the challenger Valentina Shevchenko.

Johnson is currently tied for ten title defenses with Anderson Silva, who was undefeated in the UFC between 2006 and 2013 and was dethroned in his 11th defense, against Chris Weidman at UFC 162. DJ, therefore, could surpass the former Brazilian champion in terms of title defenses. Recently, the North American was harshly criticized by Dana White, president of Ultimate, for refusing to face TJ Dillashaw, former bantamweight champion to chase Silva's record. Johnson retorted, accusing the UFC of not giving him attention and salaries commensurate with his status as world champion.

Who also deserved criticism from the UFC boss was Amanda nunes, who was scheduled to rematch Shevchenko at UFC 213, but withdrew from the fight hours before the start of the event. White said that doctors released the Brazilian, who chose not to fight. As a “gift”, Ultimate left her out of the main fight of UFC 215, which will take place in Edmonton, in the state of Alberta, Canada.

In addition to Leoa, other Brazilians are scheduled for the September event: former UFC heavyweight champion junior gypsy face the promising Francis Ngannou. Flyweight Wilson reis catches the Olympic gold medalist in wrestling Henry Cejudo.
