“Official result – opponent’s victory. But there are no arguments against numbers”, commented Werdum on social media, showing that he threw 80 blows against his rival's 22, in addition to landing a knockdown, a takedown and having more significant blows than Overeem (34 against 18).

After the fight, “Vai Cavalo” also commented on the moment he attempted the takedown when Overeem was dizzy from a series of hard blows. Werdum admitted that he could have knocked out the Dutchman, but says he did what he was trained to do.

“We knew the hand was going to come in, so we trained a lot on that. The hand came in, let's throw it down and work jiu-jitsu to finish. Unfortunately, it didn't. Overeem closed his guard well, he didn't allow me to progress, after I almost knocked him out”, commented the Brazilian to the Combate channel.
