The next challenge of Conor McGregor It won't even be in the UFC, but the Irishman has already defined his plans for his return to MMA. With a boxing duel scheduled against Floyd Mayweather on August 26, the UFC lightweight champion has already informed Dana White, president of the organization, that he wants to face Khabib Nurmagomedov in his first title defense. Furthermore, he wants the fight to take place in Russia, the country where Nurma was born.

However, for the duel to happen, Khabib needs to defeat Tony Ferguson, in a duel that should take place in the second half of this year. The confrontation, which should have taken place at UFC 209, last March, will define the interim champion of the under-70kg division.
“This fight (between Nurmagomedov and Ferguson) has to happen. It would have been much worse if the two had fought at UFC 209 and were now sitting around waiting. As it didn’t happen in March, they now need to face each other, so that the “timing” for the belt unification is perfect”, concluded Dana.
