The controversial Rousimar Palhares, known as Toquinho, already has a date, opponent and location set to fight again. After signing a contract with the Russian organization Fight Nights Global, he will face home athlete Alexei Ivanov on July 7th, in the city of Ulan-Ude, in Buryatia, Russia, in a duel valid for the middleweight category (up to 84kg). The fight will headline Fight Nights Global 70.

At 37 years old, Toquinho is going through a bad phase in his career, coming off two consecutive defeats, both by knockout. The most recent was against the Polish Michael Materla at KSW 36, in October 2016. The last time he was victorious was against Jake Shields, at WSOF, in 2015, an event in which he was champion, but ended up being fired after holding on too long in the submission against the American. In 2013, he was fired from the UFC for the same reason. On that occasion, he held off a submission for longer than necessary in a fight against Mike Pierce. In total, Toquinho has 18 positive results and eight negative results on his record.

PUBLICITY:

Ivanov, 29 years old, has 11 triumphs and three setbacks as a professional. Like Palhares, he is also coming off a defeat: he was submitted by Gennadiy Kovalev at Fight Night Global 57, last December. In 2015, he faced Brazilian Luiz Cado Simon, and ended up victorious by unanimous decision from the judges.
