At the time, Amanda clearly won the first two rounds, alternating her aggressive standing game with takedowns and nullifying Valentina. In the last round, however, the current bantamweight title challenger took advantage of the Brazilian's fatigue and almost knocked her out. In the end, the judges gave the fight to Nunes.
“It was a good fight for her, but also very lucky. Does not mean anything. She almost lost in the third round. At UFC 213, this will happen. She can say what she wants, but on July 8th, it will happen. She even has the fight to talk about, but I will beat her. She will try to beat me again, but I guarantee that it won't happen”, commented Shevchenko, in statements published by the North American website MMA Junkie.
Since the defeat to Nunes, Valentina has achieved two great triumphs, surpassing Holly holm in the unanimous decision and then finalizing Julianna Pena with an armbar. The Brazilian became world champion by finishing Miesha Tate and knocked out Ronda Rousey in the same period.
