Before the superfight between Floyd Mayweather and Conor McGregor began to be officially negotiated between the parties, the North American used every interview opportunity to diminish the Irishman's achievements. However, the tone has changed now that the duel is being treated as almost certain. The boxing champion praised his potential opponent's handwork, which could mean that the fight is close to being made official, as Floyd would be praising Conor as he is already a huge favorite in the bookmakers.

In an interview with the North American radio SiriusXM, Mayweather also showed that he is keeping an eye on what happens in the UFC, saying that McGregor only lost once in the Ultimate and when the fight went to the ground – Conor was submitted by Nate diaz at UFC 196.

“This is a boxing match, he's a great striker and I can't take that away from him. The only time McGregor was defeated was when he was on the ground. When he was on his feet, he was always victorious. He has a heavy hand and is a difficult competitor, I am a difficult competitor. We have to go there and give the world and the fans what they want to see: emotion”, declared the North American, who admitted that he had not yet signed his part of the agreement.

“I need to go back to Las Vegas and talk to my team, my managers and put this into motion. Let’s sit down and see what we can do, and hopefully the fight with McGregor can be done,” commented Mayweather.
