Coming off a loss to Michel Trator, lightweight Gilber Durinho had the opportunity to bounce back at UFC 208 in February this year. He would face Paul felder at the event, but an elbow injury took him out of the duel. Having recovered from the problem, the Brazilian now knows who he wants to face in his next fight, in addition to the show he wants to return to: Joe lauzon, UFC Las Vegas on July 7th.

“I asked for a fight in May, I asked for a fight at UFC Rio and I'm getting a lot of 'no's' from the UFC. But the last date they gave me was July 7th. I'm already training for that date, I'm just waiting (...) Joe lauzon He's a damn good guy on the ground. He has a high ground level and fights standing up, he doesn't run away from the fight. I think it's going to be a struggle. I'm a jiu-jitsu fan, but I'm not going to shy away from striking, it's not my style. That's what I want to do. You’ll never see me asking for an easy fight, asking for a guy I know I’m going to kill”, commented Durinho, in an interview with the MMA Ganhador podcast.
A UFC veteran, Lauzon is also coming off a defeat – he lost to Steven Ray in the UFC Nashville, in April of this year. Despite this, the North American is respected in the lightweight division, having already faced names like Michael chiesa, Takanori Gomi, Anthony Pettis and Jens Pulver. “J-Lau’s” resume is the biggest attraction for Durinho.
“What motivates me is a challenge, a guy with a name, a guy who I know will put me on another level, a fight that everyone will watch. That's what motivates me. I want to fight guys like that, against Joe lauzon, I know it's going to be a good fight. I have a real chance of winning. I know it's going to be a tough fight and I can see a well-sold fight. This type of fight motivates me. I don't want an easy fight. I want a tough fight”, highlighted the Brazilian.
