It's been six months since the historic UFC 205, an event held on November 12, 2016, but Eddie Alvarez still gets uncomfortable remembering the fateful day. On that occasion, the former UFC lightweight champion lost his belt after being knocked out by Conor McGregor. According to the fighter himself, the recovery work after the defeat was very difficult.

“Going back to November is difficult. I would be lying if I said that I was back training soon after. I needed some serious time to breathe. I needed to forgive myself. I'm my own worst critic, so I was very disappointed and angry with myself at Madison Square Garden. I took more time than I would have liked. I would love to just go back and get over it, but it was difficult. It was difficult for me. I put a lot into this so it was complicated, but we're overcoming it and I'm having a good time in training and having fun”, assured the American in an interview with the podcast 'The Luke Thomas Show'.

Alvarez returns to the octagon this Saturday (13), when he faces Dustin poirier at UFC 211, in Dallas (USA). According to Eddie, the pressure to return to the winning path will not influence his performance.

“I think it has an air of freedom after your worst nightmare comes true. As a fighter, your worst nightmare is getting knocked out in front of millions of people. It's like dreaming about waking up naked in a classroom. So with that out of the way, there is a freedom for me. I never thought this would happen. I never imagined it would happen to me, but it happened and I realized that nothing had changed. My family is still here, my friends are still here. I'm still the same person. Everyone just wants me to fight again and do well again. So there is a freedom there,” he concluded.
