Despite the great favoritism in a possible fight with Conor McGregor, Floyd Mayweather has adopted caution when analyzing how he compares to the UFC lightweight champion. The two have been negotiating a boxing superfight for months and, recently, the American officially came out of retirement with the aim of fighting the Irishman.

Mayweather says that the age difference (he is 40 against McGregor's 28), in addition to the heavy hands of his possible opponent balance the experience he has in professional boxing in relation to his rival - Floyd is undefeated with 49 victories, while Conor has never fought professionally in the noble art.

“I can't come here and say bad things about McGregor. I'm not here to talk bad about anyone. He's the second biggest name in MMA, so they're going to come here and talk bad about him. Conor McGregor. He arrived and did the things he had to do. Obviously, he did the right things to get where he is, so I can't say anything bad about him. I've been out of action for two years, and I'm 40, so I'm a lot older than him. This could be decisive, not to mention his heavy hands. So let's see. Did he sign the contract? Not yet, so we have to wait and see how things play out”, commented Mayweather, in an interview with the North American TV program TMZ, who said he sees McGregor as a great boxer due to the MMA fights he watched from the Irishman.

“When McGregor does well in the UFC, he is always fighting on his feet. The only time he lost was when the fight took place on the ground, so he's a great boxer, a guy who fights better on his feet than on the ground. Can he beat Floyd Mayweather? I don't know, we'll see, but anything can happen in boxing. Anything can happen in any contact sport, period”, concluded the multi-time champion.
