Shortly after the controversial defeat to Gegard Mousasi at UFC 210, Chris Weidman he appealed to the New York Athletic Commission to transform the duel into a “fight without result” and asked for a rematch with the Iranian. Still awaiting the result of the appeal, the former champion once again demanded a new chance against the executioner, who beat him after an apparently illegal knee left him dizzy.

The fight's referee, Dan Miragliotta, needed the help of a replay of the fight to realize that, in fact, the blow was legal – the use of technology would be prohibited in the organization's rules. A few days after the incident, the Commission declared that using replays was allowed, but it was not yet made official in the company's rules, which only helped to increase the confusion. Thus, Weidman was declared the loser as he was unable to return to combat. The North American disputes this assessment, in addition to the use of technology.

“We appealed. It's with my managers, my trust is in them. In the end, it doesn't make much difference to me. I know what happened in that chaos and I incorrectly came out as the loser (…) Even if they make it a no-result fight or not, I'm not focused on that. I'll let my team take care of it, but it's a shitty situation that I don't think even Mousasi wanted to happen”, commented Weidman, on the program “The MMA Hour”.

The former middleweight champion argues that his next fight will be a rematch with Mousasi, who did not seem interested in facing the American again. Weidman assured that he would win the duel if it continued.

“I think I would have continued to dominate Mousasi and even finished him. Now, that's just my opinion and you could argue that we'll never know what would happen. But I want the rematch because I felt like I was dominating the fight. Even in the second round, when he came at me and I was protecting myself from him punching me. He didn't hit anything and I still caught his back. I know Mousasi wasn't happy with the result, just seeing him throw his flag down and tell the coaches to stop celebrating. I know he switched to the press conference and was instructed to speak as he did. But his instincts were right and as a fighter you don't want to win like that. It was a disaster,” said Weidman.
