Formiga aims for belt after fight against Borg: 'I'm ready'

In an exclusive interview with SUPER LUTAS during UFC Fortaleza's Media Day, the Brazilian admitted that he dreams of a chance to face the super champion Demetrious Johnson, and praised Wilson reis, his compatriot and next challenger for the DJ belt, in a duel that will take place in April.

“This fight is going to be really good, I want to watch it from the box. I'm happy for Wilson, a compatriot, and deserving of this chance. I do think about it, but I avoid doing it because I have to face Ray Borg. I think this fight will put the winner close to the belt, it's very important. But I try not to think about it too much now. My biggest opponent and my focus is Ray Borg. Who knows, maybe after the fight, we’ll talk about it,” he commented.

Formiga also made a point of praising Borg's style, and admitted that he prefers to fight in Brazil. The flyweight will make his sixth fight for the UFC in the country and welcomes another fight in his homeland.

“He is very tough. Maybe I'm more experienced because I've had more fights in the UFC. But I don't really count on the fact that he's younger. I train and he trains, he is a great opponent, a good wrestler and a good grappler. The wedding was really good, I'm excited and I'm looking forward to a great fight. I'm prepared to win at home. It's always good to fight in Brazil, by the way. The food is tastier, the trip is shorter (laughs). I wish I could always fight here,” he concluded.
