Tony Ferguson had a surprising response to the cancellation of his fight with Khabib Nurmagomedov. The two would fight in the second most important attraction of UFC 209, with the interim lightweight title as the prize for the winner. However, the Russian had problems cutting weight, was hospitalized and the duel was canceled on medical advice.

Despite having clashed with Nurmagomedov on several occasions before the fight, Ferguson sent a message of support to his rival. Through his personal Twitter account, the American said he was praying for the full recovery of his former opponent, who was released from the hospital but is not fit to take action.

“I hope you're feeling better, Khabib. I am praying for your recovery and I mean it. Get well soon,” Ferguson wrote.

Even though he lost the chance to face Nurmagomedov, Ferguson is still not officially out of UFC 209. According to information from the North American newspaper “Las Vegas Review”, Ultimate is trying to arrange a duel between the North American and Michael Johnson, who would have already accepted the fight. Johnson was responsible for Ferguson's only loss in the UFC, when the two fought in May 2012.
