After much provocation on both sides, the duel Khabib Nurmagomedov e Tony Ferguson was finally officially announced. The two will face each other at UFC 209, on March 4, in Las Vegas (USA), in a duel for the interim lightweight belt. The information was given by Dana White, president of the organization, in an interview with the Los Angeles Times (USA).

The confrontation will define the next opponent of Conor McGregor, current linear champion of the division. After winning the belt by knocking out Eddie Alvarez at UFC 205, the Irishman announced that he would take a few months off to accompany his wife, who is pregnant. With the Irishman's decision, Ultimate decided to promote an interim title in the weight class.
Khabib, number 1 in the lightweight rankings, is undefeated in his MMA career, having won the 24 fights he has had, eight of them in Ultimate. In his last confrontation, he 'ran over' Michael Johnson at UFC 205, in November 2016. Ferguson, in second place in the rankings, comes from nine consecutive victories in the category. His last appearance was also in November last year, when he beat the former champion Rafael dos Anjos. TUF 13 champion, he has already had 13 fights in the organization, with 12 victories and only one defeat, in 2012, to Michael Johnson.
