The Hawaiian Max Holloway won the interim featherweight belt (up to 66kg) last Saturday (10), by knocking out Anthony Pettis in the main fight of UFC 206, held in Toronto, Canada. With the victory, the “Blessed”, as he is known, gained the opportunity to face José Aldo, linear champion of the category.

Still in the octagon, in the post-fight interview, Holloway challenged the Brazilian to a fight at UFC 208, in Brooklyn, on February 11, 2017. However, it seems that the fighter doesn't have much conviction about his request. At the post-event press conference, Max claimed that some “private commitments” could interfere with the duel date.
“I already had to give up Thanksgiving for this fight. I gave up my birthday (December 4th) and it's hard to fight this guy. Like I said, #wherethiswally. Let me know when you find it. (…) But we’ll see what happens. I don't want to give up my son's birthday and Christmas to fight on February 11th and Aldo doesn't show up. He has a history of not showing up to fight, so we'll see. I'll have to talk to Dana White first. I have some bruises to heal and we'll go from there. I promised my son a trip to Disney and this will certainly interfere”, declared the fighter.
When commenting on the belt he won, Holloway once again criticized Aldo, and stated that he is the true featherweight champion.
“From what I know, that son of a bitch is always getting hurt and giving up fights, so this one might be the real belt. Most true fans know the story. Conor (McGregor)'s trainer, John Kavanagh, said I was the best featherweight in the world. And José wants to retire, then he doesn't want to anymore... And then he wins the belt, then he wants to move up a category. Most fans know the story and most know that this was supposed to be the real belt,” he concluded.
Max Holloway, 25 years old, comes from an incredible sequence of ten victories in his career, having surpassed names like Cub swanson, Charles of the Bronx, Jeremy Stephen and Ricardo Lamas, as well as, of course, Anthony Pettis. His defeat was in August 2013, when he was overcome by Conor McGregor. In total, there are 17 triumphs and only three setbacks as a professional.
