The return of the former champion B.J. Penn to the octagon was once again scheduled. The Hawaiian will be in the main fight of UFC Fight Night Phoenix, an event that will take place on January 15th. Your opponent will be Yair Rodriguez, in a fight valid for the featherweight division of Ultimate.
Penn, 37 years old, has the UFC lightweight and welterweight titles on his resume. His last appearance in the Octagon was in July 2014, when he debuted in the featherweight division with a resounding defeat to Frankie Edgar.
His return to fighting had been announced on other occasions in 2016. Penn had fights announced against Dennis Siver, Cole Miller and Ricardo Lamas in four different events, but none of them got off the ground for different reasons.
Rodriguez, 24, is one of the big rising names in the category. Champion of the first season of TUF Latin America, the Mexican comes from six consecutive victories in the UFC, including a spectacular knockout against André Fili. In his last fight, he beat Alex Caceres in the judges' decision.
As this is the main fight of the night, the duel between Penn and Rodriguez will last five rounds. Another six fights have already been announced for UFC Phoenix, including the fight between the Brazilian Jussier formiga and Sergio Pettis.
